AI for conveyancers

AI that does the reading. Your solicitors make the decisions.

Conveyancing is full of reading: memos, searches, registers, leases, forms and other people's enquiries. OpLegal's AI takes on that reading and the first drafts, and it shows you exactly where every suggestion came from.

Built around the work, not added on

Most AI in legal software is a chat box beside the real work. In OpLegal, AI sits inside the steps of the matter: where a document arrives, where a form is filled in, where a reply is due. It suggests; your team accepts, changes or dismisses each suggestion.

What it reads

  • The estate agent's sales memo on a sale: the buyers, their solicitor, the agent, the price and the deposit, filled into the contract details for you to check.
  • The official copies on a sale: owners, class of title, charges, restrictions, covenants and rights, as notes for the solicitor's title review.
  • Search results on a purchase: key findings on your firm's topics, such as flooding, contamination and planning.
  • The contract pack on a purchase, and the mortgage offer on a remortgage, for the report on title.
  • Emails and files in a matter's “To sort” tray: where they go and who they're from.

What it drafts

  • Answers to the buyer's solicitor's enquiries, from the sellers' own signed forms and documents.
  • Details and key issues for the report on title, from your firm's template.
  • Replies to other parties, from what may be shared with them. Drafts are copied for you to send yourself; the AI never sends anything.

How it keeps itself honest

Every suggestion comes with the exact words from the document that support it. If the AI can't back something up word for word, it's thrown away rather than shown. When the documents don't answer an enquiry, OpLegal says so and suggests asking the client instead of guessing.

Everything AI suggests is marked as a suggestion until a person at your firm accepts it, and you can see who accepted what in the matter's history.

Your AI provider, your agreement

OpLegal's AI features run on your firm's own account with an AI provider, such as Anthropic or OpenAI, under your firm's own agreement with them. Your firm confirms that agreement before AI is switched on, chooses the model, and sets a daily limit. The AI only reads a document when someone asks it to, for a particular job on a particular matter.

Common questions

Does the AI make decisions on a matter?

No. It reads and drafts. A person at your firm accepts, changes or dismisses every suggestion, and nothing is sent by the AI.

What happens if the documents don't say?

The AI says it couldn't find the answer, and OpLegal suggests asking the client. Anything it can't support word for word from the documents is thrown away.

Which AI does OpLegal use?

Your firm's own account with an AI provider, such as Anthropic or OpenAI, under your own agreement with them.

Can we switch the AI off?

Yes. The AI features are optional, and everything else in OpLegal works without them.
