Onboarding, ID and AML checks
Know your client without the paper chase.
Chasing ID, proof of address and source of funds by email takes weeks and leaves documents scattered across inboxes. OpLegal brings onboarding into one place, from the client's first answer to the solicitor's sign-off.
Clients do their part online
Once a client accepts their estimate, they answer your onboarding questions and upload their ID, proof of address and source of funds documents in their portal. Joint clients each give their own details. You see what's missing, and OpLegal can remind them.
ID verification and screening with ComplyCube
Each client verifies their identity online with ComplyCube: a photo of their ID document and a selfie, checked automatically, with screening against sanctions and politically exposed persons lists. The report is added to the client's onboarding for the solicitor to review and accept.
Review, risk and sign-off
- Accept or reject each document, with a reason the client can see.
- Record a client risk assessment and a matter risk assessment, with a suggested rating from what OpLegal already knows.
- Check that the seller is the registered owner with Land Registry's owner check, and check companies with Companies House where a company is involved.
- Mark onboarding complete only when everything is in place; the matter opens from there.
One folder per client
Each client's AML folder holds their ID, proof of address, verification and screening, conflict checks, risk assessments and source of wealth. A valid ID check can cover a client's next transaction, and ID and AML records are kept for as long as the law requires, even when other data is deleted.
Common questions
Which ID verification provider does OpLegal use?
ComplyCube, for ID document checks, selfies and screening against sanctions and politically exposed persons lists.
Can we see what's missing for each client?
Yes. Onboarding shows what's still to do for each client, and the solicitor can send it back to the client with a note.
Does OpLegal decide a client's risk rating?
No. It suggests a rating from what it knows; the solicitor records the assessment.
How long are ID and AML records kept?
As long as the money laundering rules require, even when a client asks for their other data to be deleted.
